Two-Factor Authentication Problem You May Face

Sometimes in our quest to protect ourselves from hackers we usually end up making our own access to our account difficult. We end up being like a man that used burglary proof all over his house without any emergency entrance or exit. It is always fun when you receive your two-factor authentication code the moment you requested for it and was able to access your account swiftly.

Sometimes in our quest to use two-factor authentication to protect ourselves from hackers, we usually end up making our own access to our account difficult.

We end up being like a man that used burglary proof all over his house without any emergency entrance or exit.

It is always fun when you receive your two-factor authentication code the moment you requested for it and was able to access your account swiftly.

But What happens when you lose the number you use in receiving your authentication code or there is no network coverage on the phone? Or you lose access to the authenticator app?

Does it mean it is the end of the road for your login for the day?

I know you probably may have faced this challenge, but don’t worry, there is now a solution to that.

Every Facebook account has what Facebook calls a recovery code these are a list of 10 Facebook self-generated codes for you to use for logging in when you can’t access the phone that you use in receiving your authentication code.

The beauty of these codes is that they can be regenerated by a single button click and no one code can be used twice.

I know you might be wondering, how do I get this code?

Simply go to your Facebook Settings & Privacy button.
Then select Settings.
Scroll down to Security and Login and select it.

Then a new page appears, scroll down till you get to Two Factor Authentication, then select use Two-Factor Authentication. Make sure your Two-Factor authentication is turned on if not find my post here on how to do that.

Then scroll to Add a Backup Method and select Recovery Codes.

Here you will see a list of 10 recovery codes, you can now copy it out or take a screenshot and keep them safe.

Now the recovery codes will be added to your two factor authentication.

Whenever you want to login and an authentication code is needed and you are not with the phone that receives the code you can enter any of the code you copied out as your verification code and boom, you will be logged in.

Remember, you can’t use one code twice and you can regenerate new ones after using up the 10.

Saving the two-factor recovery code is not only for Facebook. Make sure you backup or save either your QR code scan or recovery code whenever you are setting up two-factor on any platform. This is very important.

Don’t setup two-factor without saving your recovery or backup code or QR code.

Security:

Remember, a hacker has also equal power as you do on your account when with these codes. Keep it safe.
