How to Clear Computer Temp Folders for free storage Space

If you are thinking of a way to free up more storage space in your computer hard disk, deleting files on your temp folder should be the first option. Temp folder is one of the places on your Windows computer where it is safe to clear files and folders regularly. Files or folders found in the temp folder are stored by applications mostly for temporary use. Therefore, these files are supposed to be deleted by the applications that created them after use, but on most occasions, they are left undeleted by applications.

How to Locate Temp Folder in Windows 10 and Delete its Content

To delete files from the temp folders in windows 10, follow the steps below:

  1. Press the Windows + R shortcut on your keyboard, and the Run dialog box will appear. You can type in run in the search window and press the enter key on your keyboard.

2. Then type the following command on the textbox: %localappdata%\temp

3. Press the Enter key on your keyboard or click the Ok button. This will open the temp folder in your Windows Explorer.

4. Press Ctrl + A to select all the files and folders in the folder, and then press delete. This will delete all the files in the folder that are not in use. Remember also to clear your recycle bin after the deletion, or use the Shift + Delete command on your keyboard to avoid pushing the files to the recycle bin.

The second folder you can safely clear files from is the Windows temp folder. To locate and delete files and folders from the folder, follow the steps below:

  1. Press Windows + R on your keyboard, and the Windows Run box will appear.
  2. Type the following command on the run textbox: \Windows\temp
  3. Then press the Enter key on your keyboard or click the Ok button.
  4. The folder will open on your file explorer
  5. Then press the shortcut Ctrl + A to select all the files and folders, and then press shift + delete.
  6. This will clear all the files in the temp folder and free up space on your hard drive.

Another folder that is safe to clear in order to free up space regularly on your computer is the browser cache folder.

For Chrome browsers, simply type the following command in the Run textbox as above:. %localappdata%\Google\Chrome\User Data\Default\Cache and hit Enter on the keyboard or press the Ok button. Then clear the files in the folder.

For Firefox, use the following command in the Run textbox; %localappdata%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\randomcharacters.default\cache2\entries. The random characters will be unique to your PC. You can shorten the command to profile and then open the remaining folders manually. Then clear the files on the entries folder.

Remember, you can also do a disk cleanup to remove temp files, share your own way of cleaning your PC space on the comment box.
